Writer. Mocker. Beer drinker. Old movie watcher. Mother. Goober.

DVR, you complete me

"The DVR is 100 percent full!"

Yeah, so, I have a relationship with the DVR.

I feel bad for my husband. David tries to understand it. Sometimes he even tries to join us, but our threesome never quite works out.

You see, I record a lot of stuff. Some of the shows on the DVR are shows that we both watch (“Mad Men,” “Top Chef,” “30 Rock,” “Archer”), and some of the shows are ones that he kinda watches because I watch them (“Project Runway,” “So You Think You Can Dance”). And, of course, there are shows I record that he has no interest in watching, (“Justified,” “Glee” and some other shows that I won’t even list here because I’m ashamed). The DVR is constantly sitting at 50 percent to 60 percent full.

Every once in a while, David will ask me to record something; a “Sherlock Holmes” movie on PBS, a “Masterpiece Theatre” on PBS … he likes PBS. Of course, I oblige. Then I pester him every day to watch his recorded show because the DVR is now at 75 percent full.

“Do you want to watch your show?”
“Are you going to watch this?”
“How about now?”
“How about now?”
“You know what you should do? Watch that show you asked me to record.”

Eventually, David will actually watch it or just tell me to delete it.

Of course, I could just delete some of my recorded shows to make room on the DVR, but, well, that’s just crazy talk.

What I’m trying to tell you folks is that living with me is awesome.

Author: The Sonia Show

I'm a writer/podcaster/mother/goober in San Francisco who likes to drink beer, shop, laugh and make other people laugh, watch old movies, feed my unhealthy obsession with pop culture, kick breast cancer's ass, go on adventures with my mighty, mighty good man David and my awesome autistic son, Calvin, wear orange and root for the San Francisco Giants, participate in general jackass-ery, talk about TV, eavesdrop on strangers' conversations, make nerdy “Star Wars” and “Simpsons” references, and post personal things about myself on the web for all to read, which makes me some sort of literary exhibitionist.

  1. is this a tivo or a DVR from your cable provider? i ask because you can always get a larger hard drive for a tivo, allowing you to leave the poor lad alone.

Leave a comment, you guys. It's fun!
