It’s the most wonderful time of the year, dammit!

Yeah, so, why is KOIT-FM playing Christmas music already?

It’s not even Thanksgiving yet. Did they start right after Halloween?

I know you guys don’t listen to the radio, but I do. I’m totally old school. Also, my 8-track player is broken.

I was scanning through the radio stations, trying to find one that wasn’t playing “Teenage Dream,” when I stumbled upon KOIT and its Christmas music. I would think that finding enough songs to play from Thanksgiving to Christmas would be difficult enough, why stretch it even more?

I think they start playing holiday music earlier and earlier every year. By my calculations, they will be playing holiday music right after Labor Day in 2011 and right after the Fourth of July in 2012.

I’ve got a great idea for KOIT, and I’m going to shoot off an email to them right now.

What don’t you just switch your format to holiday music year round? You know you want to.

I'm a writer/mocker/goober/mother in San Francisco who likes to drink beer, shop, laugh and make other people laugh, podcast, watch old movies, feed my unhealthy obsession with pop culture, kick breast cancer's ass, wear orange and root for the San Francisco Giants, participate in general jackass-ery, talk about TV, eavesdrop on strangers' conversations, make nerdy “Star Wars” and “Simpsons” references, and post personal things about myself on the web for all to read, which makes me some sort of literary exhibitionist.

  1. The only thing I hate more than Christmas is Christmas music. Except for those heavy metal and “alternative” Christmas albums that make a mockery of the baby jesus.

Actually, scratch that. Celine probably makes more of a mockery of the baby jesus than Scott Ian ever could.

    • I like three Christmas songs:

Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC
Last Christmas by Wham (fond childhood memory association)
      Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses

KOIT only plays two of those, and I’ll let you guess which ones.

  2. Hilarious! You should so email that letter. A radio station here is Denver will start playing Christmas music on Monday. Christmas music 24/7 until December 26th then it is back to the same 30 songs they play all day long. Maybe that is because I love Christmas music but it is also a nice break from “Teenage Dream” or anything by John Mayer.

Now, what is up with those people putting their Christmas lights right after Halloween?! That is what I would like to know.

  3. If we celebrate Christmas all year round, it won’t be special anymore. Don’t people realize that?! Freaks!!

  4. I love this time of year and I love the holiday music. I do like to wait until after Thanksgiving though because I love Thanksgiving. I’m totally lame about Christmas. I’m indifferent to the gift giving and receiving especially in a recession. I love the feeling this time of year creates. I love getting together for parites, seeing family, scarves, coats, hot cocoa, ginerbread lattes, holiday decorations, all the lights, etc… Love it!!

    • You know I love the holidays, too, but I don’t love the music. And I really don’t love that people are trying to start celebrating earlier and earlier every year.

I saw a Walgreens with Christmas stuff in October. OCTOBER!
