Yeah, so, poor Oakland.
First the A’s owners are trying to take their team elsewhere, and now the Warriors are fleeing to San Francisco.
So why are the Warriors coming to SF? Because they are going to get a shiny new stadium, that’s why. The plan is to build a privately funded (yeah right) stadium at Pier 30-32 along the Embarcadero.
Honestly, I don’t give a crap about basketball. I love baseball. See? But I have been to some Warrior games in Oakland, and I usually have a good time, because I like to drink and yell in public. Might I go to more basketball games if the team in San Francisco? Sure, if someone is kicking me free tickets.
I don’t know how I feel about the location of the new Warriors’ stadium. It’s on the Embarcadero, right by the Bay Bridge. It doesn’t sound like they have a really great plan in place for parking. AND, more importantly, this might affect one of my favorite brunch spots in San Francisco, the Hi-Dive.
One of my favorite things to do in San Francisco is have brunch with my mighty, mighty good man David and the Spawn at Hi-Dive followed by a walk along the Embarcadero. The Hi-Dive has tasty food. It’s affordable. There’s no wait for brunch (a San Francisco rarity). Plus, there’s a view of the bay. I don’t want this ginormous stadium to ruin it.
Why does the stadium need to be built on the water? It’s basketball. It’s indoors. It’s not like you can see the view from the seats. Unless the stadium is going to be made of glass … Oh my god! Is the stadium going to be made of glass?! [crosses fingers] Please let it be made of glass. Please let it be made of glass. A glass stadium filled with guys throwing balls around. What could possibly go wrong?
So, yeah, this stadium will bring jobs and tax money to the San Francisco, but it’s going to spoil my brunch plans. It must be stopped! Who’s with me?
