Yeah, so, we are super lucky when it comes to baby-sitters.
We have a great group of friends and family nearby who are almost always willing to spend an evening hanging out with The Boy while we go to dinner or hang out with friends. We try not to ask too often. We don’t want to be assholes about it and take advantage.
So, yeah, the best part about this network of Spawn sitters is we don’t have to pay them! [*takes advantage*] Usually, we leave a credit card and delivery menus, so instead of paying a babysitter by the hour, it costs us the price of Chinese food delivery.
Good buddy Kate offers to babysit just so she can watch our HBO On Demand. Luckily for us, the new season of “Girls” has started, so Kate will be willing to babysit for the next 10 weeks. Kate is one of our go-to Calvin sitters. He loves her. When he is with Kate, I know he’s going to be safe, and I know he’s going to have a good time.
She went above and beyond the call of duty on Saturday night. I went out to dinner with some friends for long-time good buddy Aaron’s birthday. We went to the Grand Tavern in Oakland. Cool place. It’s in an old house, and it had a good beer selection.
So anyway, Kate texted me around 8: “Calvin threw up but he doesn’t seem sick. No need to come home, just wanted to let you know.”
Hmmm. I asked if she was sure, and she sent me a cute photo of them reading a book, so I knew it was all good. But I checked back in at 10.
“Yeah, he threw up again.”
Turns out, he threw up all over the place. She had to give him a bath, change his sheets, etc. But he was sound asleep and totally fine now.
I was horrified. That’s not what our babysitters sign up for. They get a little playtime in. They read some books. They give him a bottle. He goes to sleep. They order delivery food and watch On Demand. That’s the deal. They don’t clean up vomit and change sheets.
I don’t think all the delivery food and On Demand shows can thank Kate for what she did on Saturday night! [Thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Kate!]
Oh, and by the way, The Boy seems completely fine now. I have no idea if it was something he ate or what (and no, I didn’t give him eggs again). On Sunday, we went to the Sunnyside Playground and had a good ol’ time. See?
Oh, and we watched football.
I don’t really watch football, because, you know, whatever football, but I always root for the local teams. I don’t know if you’ve heard but our local team is going to be playing in the Super Bowl, which is kind of a big deal, because Beyonce is playing the halftime show.
So, the San Francisco Giants win the World Series in 2010 and 2012, and now the 49ers are playing in the Super Bowl. We’re so spoiled in this town.
