Yeah, so, let’s talk about beer …
It’s SF Beer Week, which means all kinds of bars and restaurants in the Bay Area are pouring delicious, special beers. In other words, it’s like our Christmas. On Friday night, mighty, mighty David and I went to the SF Beer Week opening night gala, in which more than 80 breweries were pouring beer.
Even though we bought tickets, we had to wait in the rain to get in at the Concourse Center. There was a man in front of me in line who was wearing sandals. First of all, no. Second, it was pouring rain ALL DAY. Third, he was with a date. And finally, ha ha.
We do really love beer. And it was worth it. We had a great time. The crowd was really friendly, and they weren’t too obnoxious considering how much beer they were consuming. Thankfully, there weren’t a bunch of bros yelling “Woooooo” the entire time and high fiving after chugging their beer. If there were, well, we missed it. Lucky us.
There were a lot of long lines for beer such as Pliny the Younger, which we have had before, and while it’s a perfectly fine beer, I don’t feel the need to spend the entire night waiting in line for it. We hit a few of the more popular booths. I LOVED Drake’s sour beer. Sour beer is the new black. Every booth had a sour beer and a beer brewed in a boozy barrel. Highwater was there, and I can’t so say no to their Campfire Stout. But mainly we opted to hit some of the smaller breweries that we don’t get to try often such as Faction, Uncommon Brewers and Pacific Lab, whose Squid Ink brewed in Four Roses barrels was delicious.
I made the rookie mistake of drinking all the pours I received, which meant I wasn’t able to try as many different beers as I would have liked, before I was too tipsy. They give really hefty pours at this thing. I should have drank about half what they poured, dumped the rest, and moved on to try something new. But it’s hard to dump out good beer. In fact, it’s downright un-American. If you want to see the entire list of what I tried at the opening night gala, you should follow me on Untappd. I’m always trying a new beer and judging it, because I’m totally cool, and craft beer is so hot right now. Also, I probably drink too much.
