It’s a pirate’s life for me

Yeah, so, mighty, mighty good man David is back from traveling the world.

I’m sure everyone is relieved, because now they don’t have to listen to me go on and on about how I’m a single parent, and it’s so hard, you guys. I’m such a dick. There are a lot of people who do the single parenting thing every day, and I’m a big whiner about doing it for 12 days. Boo-hoo. Poor me. But seriously, a tip of the hat to single parents. Keep up the good work.

So anyway, David is not really aching to travel for work these days. He misses his little family, but sometimes, it can’t be helped. He did start a funny tradition, which I’m going to share with you, my tens of readers.

When Calvin was just a baby, he really liked these Little People pirate toys.

So, in order to feel close to Calvin while traveling for work, David took one of the pirates with him, snapped some photos of the pirate on his adventures and posted them on Facebook. Now, it’s a thing. I believe the pirate went to London first, and he’s also been to glamorous Florida. I really look forward to these photos when David travels. I think they are hilarious.

For this trip, the pirate, who for some reason we’ve named Sebastian, got to visit Poland, Germany, England and France. Lucky pirate.

Sebastian has friends, you know. And, one of his friends, Bruce, is starting to wonder why he doesn’t get to travel. Here’s what he got to do while Sebastian was globe trotting.

I'm a writer/podcaster/mother/goober in San Francisco who likes to drink beer, shop, laugh and make other people laugh, watch old movies, feed my unhealthy obsession with pop culture, kick breast cancer's ass, go on adventures with my mighty, mighty good man David and my awesome autistic son, Calvin, wear orange and root for the San Francisco Giants, participate in general jackass-ery, talk about TV, eavesdrop on strangers' conversations, make nerdy “Star Wars” and “Simpsons” references, and post personal things about myself on the web for all to read, which makes me some sort of literary exhibitionist.

  1. “Bruce got to watch the Chica Show” I don’t know why but that made me giggle so hard!

  2. I’m totally going to steal that idea except mine will be “(insert tiny toy here) is on top of a really dirty pile of old snow in Rochester, NY” or “(insert toy here) is sitting in coach next to an over-sharer.”

  3. Here’s your jealous moment for the day:

We watched the Chica Show with Squatch once. He hated it. We don’t have to see it anymore.
