Dorking Out Episode 32: ‘Riverdale,’ ‘Emerald City,’ Anti-Heroes And More

Yeah, so, in this week’s episode of Dorking Out we talk about anti-heroes. Smith thinks there are too many and it’s ruining TV. I don’t disagree. I think most anti-heroes are the result of lazy writing. We have a good discussion about it, and we share our favorite TV anti-heroes.

In our second segment, Abbie Bernstein, an entertainment journalist and author, joins us to talk about modernizing classic stories. We review The CW’s “Riverdale,” which the radically reimagining of the old Archie comics. Yes, really. We also discuss NBC’s “Emerald City,” which is a remake of “The Wizard Of Oz.” I really hated it.

And finally, in our Favorite Headlines, we discuss Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards and Producers Guild Awards, and the influence they will have on our Oscar picks.

But wait, there’s more. I also joined The Pop Show for a lively discussion about the Television Critics Association panels, “Wonder Woman,” “The Flash” and why Smith keeps watching all the “Transformer” movies.

So anyway, you can listen to Dorking Out here, or you can find us on iTunes, Stitcher and YouTube. If you listen to the show, I’d love to hear what you think. You can comment here, or on our website or Facebook page.

I'm a writer/mocker/goober/mother in San Francisco who likes to drink beer, shop, laugh and make other people laugh, podcast, watch old movies, feed my unhealthy obsession with pop culture, kick breast cancer's ass, wear orange and root for the San Francisco Giants, participate in general jackass-ery, talk about TV, eavesdrop on strangers' conversations, make nerdy “Star Wars” and “Simpsons” references, and post personal things about myself on the web for all to read, which makes me some sort of literary exhibitionist.
