Sweatin’ to the oldies

Yeah, so, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to be more active. I’m trying to worry less about dieting and food. Instead, I’m focusing more on exercise and being healthy.

I love yoga, and I’m continuing to do that once a week. But I also wanted to try something different, so I signed up for a dance class.

Look, my friends! My hair is long enough that I can wear it up. That hasn’t been a thing in about 5 years.

My buddy Malaika came with me so that I wouldn’t be embarrassed all by myself. It’s not a serious dance class. It’s a fun, let’s get sweaty dance class.

I’ve never taken a dance class before, so I didn’t know what to expect. Actually, that’s not true. I did know what to expect: I expected that I wouldn’t remember the steps (even though they were repeatedly demonstrated for me), and I expected that I would always be about two beats behind everyone else. Both of those things happened.

It’s a hip-hop/jazz class. I have zero rhythm, and even the simplest dance step was challenging. But, those things are not important. What’s important is that I had a good time and upped my activity level. I’ll definitely go back. I want to make it a regular thing. Shit, maybe I’ll even get better.

In other news, cute dog photos!

I'm a writer/podcaster/mother/goober in San Francisco who likes to drink beer, shop, laugh and make other people laugh, watch old movies, go to baseball games, kick breast cancer's ass, explore with my mighty, mighty good man David and my awesome autistic son, Calvin, participate in general jackass-ery, talk about TV, eavesdrop on strangers' conversations, make nerdy “Star Wars” and “Simpsons” references, and post personal things about myself on the web for all to read, which makes me some sort of literary exhibitionist.

Leave a comment, you guys. It's fun!
